things i've watched in 2026

i've decided to start logging all the stuff i watch this year here! so far it's not a whole lot- mostly just rewatches, which won't count towards this page. i do have letterboxd, but most tv shows aren't on there.

aespa: world tour in cinemas [concert film, 2023] (january 2026)

i watched this on the plane back from visiting family earlier this year. i was surprised to see it in the united inflight entertainment menu but it was definitely a pleasant surprise! they also had i-dle and ateez's concert films, but i picked this one. i don't like flying but getting to look at talented women in pretty outfits made the experience a little better lol

firefly [tv show, 2002] (april 2026- )

episode one (yes, the actual first episode)
i don’t have a great grip on everyone’s names just yet but that’s bc my memory is funky and overall i think they did a pretty good job introducing the ensemble cast. i like that they lean into the “western” part of space western and i enjoyed the cobbled-together look of the sets a lot (tree lights around kaylee’s door, multiple typewriters, old computer terminal on the ceiling). i’m sure many people have spoken about this and worded it better than i could, but this show definitely has a weird relationship with asian cultures, in particular chinese culture. i know there's an upcoming animated installment in the same universe so i hope whoever's writing that won't just be virtually using it as set dressing again. the other elephant in the room, of course, is joss whedon (for context, as someone born in 2001 who didn't watch like any tv growing up i was a bit too young for most of his work when it was in its real heyday. my first real exposure to his writing was avengers: age of ultron, a rightfully contentious entry, so i was around for the era where he began to sort of fall off the pedestal upon which much of #nerdculture had placed him. i have also read his leaked spec script for a CW wonder woman pilot and……… was less than impressed. all this to say: i’m coming into firefly more familiar with many of his dubious moments and lacking the nostalgia many people hold for his admittedly strong genre contributions in the 90’s and 2000’s, which the tone of this writeup will certainly reflect.) and his horny camera. i understand: morena baccarin is a beautiful woman. i like looking at her. i also think a sex scene or a scene otherwise involving nudity can have an entirely valid place in a narrative. however i am not convinced that we needed ~45 seconds of just washcloth bath? then again, this was 2002, so given that the luxury of simply Googling Boobs wasn't quite as universally accessible, pretty much everyone was doing this as a ratings ploy. sex sells and stuff. maybe things will get better as the series progresses. probably not since there's One (1) season. so far my favorite characters are kaylee, zoe, whatever her husband's name is, and inara. #gowomen
