american girl dolls

(including all lines produced under the american girl brand as well as other 18" dolls)

I'm often glad I was raised very polite, as otherwise I absolutely could have been the kid who famously proclaimed I Think I Know More About American Girl Dolls Than You Do, Genius. to that point, I once told my friend that I can tell that video was taken between 2008 and 2010 because of the purple paisley-ish print boxes visible, to which my friend replied something to the effect of "carbon-dating this vine is crazy." person depicted there, if you're reading this, please contact me. I think you're probably my Wario.

this page needs more time to cook sorry! I'll start taking photos soon. 18" AG dolls are listed more or less in order of when I acquired them (I have to take stock) and left to right in each picture.

historical dolls & girls of the year will have their year next to their name; girls of today (or whatever tf Mattel's calling them now) will have their numbers. * next to a historical doll's year indicates they're also modern on a When I Feel Like It basis

samantha, molly, nicki, julie, julianna

Samantha (1904*) was my first 18" American Girl doll, and she's my only doll produced before Mattel bought Pleasant Company. she originally belonged to my older cousin, who decided to hand her down to me as a present for my fifth birthday, so she's really special to me :)
Nicki (2007) was my first Girl of the Year. I liked her because she had a dog. I have to fix her hair but at least I didn't give in to my one friend's peer pressure to let her have her because I saw what she had done to her own dolls. and it wasn't good.
Molly (1944) was always my second favorite doll when I looked at the catalog as a kid, because she had glasses.
Julie (1974) taught me what the word divorce meant.
Julianna (#13) is my mini-me! my best friend my pal. my right-hand arm man. my shayla. I can openly admit she and Samantha are my favorites (they're twins). if any of my dolls somehow came to life they're the ones I'd be least surprised about.

mia, marisol, nellie, felicity, kirsten

Mia (2008) had some of the best outfits of any GOTY in my opinion... her little pink MP3 player is everything to me
Marisol (2005) has the distinct honor of being American Girl's first and only Chicago representation #CHICAGOMENTIONED
Nellie (1904) is the first doll I got from the "best friends" sub-line.
Felicity (1774) the horse girl that you are
Kirsten (1854) along with Samantha and Molly rounds out the trio of the line's OG 3.

kris, lanie, emily, elizabeth, charlotte

Kris (2009) is originally the 2009 GOTY, but I'm not gonna deadname them. if I had a nickel for every doll I've kind of named after a Deltarune character I'd have 2 nickels which isn't a lot and so on and so forth
Lanie (2010) is a very nostalgic doll for me. I didn't have her camper but I DID think it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.
Emily (1944) is, technically speaking, a British Girl. at the risk of sounding patriotic that doesn't quite have the same ring to it. we will make an exception because she looks very polite.
Elizabeth (1774) was the first AG doll with interchangeable earrings if anyone care
Charlotte (#21) was my... second? secondhand AG doll.

kanani, kailey, jess? alex?? ruthie

Kanani (2011) was the first doll I bought with my Own Money aka the first time I ever busted open my piggy bank. sorry to the cashier who had to count like $20 worth of quarters :(
Kailey (2003) is a doll that my at-the-time babysitter's friend was getting rid of and asked around "hey does anyone want this?" and my babysitter (whose entire family is comprised of the sweetest people ever hi Hope) said oh you know who would love this. and so I have her! for a long time I'd renamed her Melody but then American Girl made a doll named Melody so she got name dibs.
Jess (2006) was acquired from the same antique store as Charlotte. I've always thought the subtle red highlights in her hair are really pretty. one of her eyes doesn't stay open all the way unless you tuck some of the eyelashes up into the eye socket (gross) but I still love her
Alex (#41) is named after the cousin who handed down her Samantha to me! therefore she's Julianna and Samantha's cousin in my doll world. I picked her out specifically at the store because I liked the slight tilt of her head. it gives her some character imo.
Ruthie (1934) might be in the wrong order. idk I really like her though. she has a similar hair color to Iess.

marie-grace josefina mckenna caroline saige

Marie-Grace (1853) and her co-headliner Cécile were the first historical dolls to break the pattern of having the year end in 4. I was going to say we never saw this face mold again but I was wrong! Kavi Sharma, the 2023 Girl of the Year, also used it. waow. I kind of regret not getting Cécile, too, because she was really gorgeous.
Josefina (1824) is really pretty :)
McKenna (2012)

isabelle melody lea nanea kaya

Isabelle (2014) is blonde.
Melody (1964) is probably my second favorite historical doll.

luciana zoe chaerin

info 31-33. zoe is 47 and chaerin is 30

hallie, beth, april

the "fosters" info
Hallie (#22) is technically not my doll. I've had her for probably coming up on 15 years, but the same aforementioned babysitter actually loaned her to me, and she's been living here ever since. even though we haven't been in touch with those family friends for a while, I still keep her ready just in case her original owner ever wants her back.
Beth (#13) was found at Goodwill in like 2018 for $3.99. as you can see, she had undergone a haircut, and her cosmetologist was also pioneering bold new territory in the realm of "parts of the body where nail polish goes." on top of all this she was not wearing anything, meaning she wouldn't have been an appealing pick for a kid browsing the toy aisle. my goal eventually is to replace her wig, remove all the stains on her vinyl, and re-donate her to the same Goodwill where I found her, so that a kid whose family might not otherwise be able to afford an AG doll can have her as a friend. judging by what's left of her wig, she's a #13 like my Julianna, which feels serendipitous in a way since I'll be passing on the Friend Having.
April (#29 or #42) is a rewigged doll I picked up at a doll show several years back. since her original wig is gone and her body tag lacks a copyright date, I'll likely never know which of the two dolls with the classic face mold/medium skin tone/brown eyes/feathered eyebrows combo she started life as. oh well! her current wig is pretty nice, but it's not glued on very securely, and she has a couple other issues. once those are fixed she'll go live with a friend of mine. :)
