bfc ink

bfc ink, also known as slash short for best friends club, ink, was a line of dolls made by mga entertainment starting in 2009. there were two types of dolls: ten-inch ones with painted eyes, and eighteen-inch ones with inset eyes. the eighteen-inch ones were the same height as american girl and other popular dolls of that type, but much skinnier, having a more classic fashion doll body type. they seemed to be more popular than their smaller counterparts, possibly due to their unique size and better articulation, and they'll be my focus on this page. according to dollect, the line was discontinued in 2011, but if i remember correctly the dolls stuck around in stores through 2012.

i have one 18" bfc ink doll: rose!

pic coming soon

rose is from the pen pals line of bfc ink dolls, originally a british girl named... britt. not super creative. she also originally had longer hair, but the hair quality on these dolls is heinous, which is a common theme with mga dolls made prior to about 2019. i've done some other faceup-related customizing on her as well.

bfc ink dolls are maybe some of the hardest dolls to find clothes for, and that's saying a lot because i have a lot of weirdly-sized dolls. they have a completely different body type to any other 18" play doll i can think of, and shoes are kind of just straight up a lost cause. however, there is one line with which they can share clothes near-perfectly: crissy! these late 1960s through early 1970s 18" fashion dolls somehow have the right proportions to swap clothes with a line of dolls made 40 years later that doesn't fit anything else. go figure.

i know i said the unique size of the 18" dolls likely contributed to them being more successful than the 10" ones, but i also think it was part of their downfall. like i mentioned, it's not easy to find clothes for them, and let's be real: maybe 50% (number may vary from person to person) of the fun of having a doll is putting them in outfits. their faces are sweet, but a larger doll makes bad hair a larger problem. i do still really like these dolls, though, and i'd love to get a wig for rose because she photographs super well.
